I came across this one rather interesting article on straits times, and thought that i would share with you guys. This is an article about 25 random things about singapore youth, written by a guy from united states, relating about us, youngsters here.
1)They speak to me softly in perfect English, then turn around and scream in Singlish to their friends
2)Theys SMS with a speed and frequency that makes my own thumbs sore from sympathy pains (hahas...pretty funny, and thanks for the compliment!)
3)They admit that their apathetic, and speak passionately about it.
4)They complain about the lack of culture on their school campuses, then immediately go back to studying (thats what we students are trained to do in singapore isnt it?)
5)They wear their emotions and intentions on their chests in the form of T-shirt sayings like "Little Miss Giggles", "i SmS your mUm", so true isnt it woeilin? hahas.
6)They are extremely quiet in class, but downright chatty one-on-one (i guess we all are..hahas.)
7)They love David Beckham, and lust after George Clooney. (well, you cant blame us, there arent many good looking stars in the country...blehs)
8)Apparently, procreation is not their forte. At this point of life, they could not care less.
9)Marriage is not yet on most of their minds. Instead, they say they want to keep getting red ang baos...hahas.
10)Romance is not an art many young males here have mastered-gfs here receive schoolbags and external harddisks for valentine's! (hahas...we cant help it see...there're too many computer geeks around. )
11)They are incredibly,falsely, modest. (thanks!)
12)They are way too polite. I asked a young woman to take my picture, and after which, she thanked me for the once-in-a-lifetime chance to capture me on film. (hahs...this note made me laughed out really loud)
13)Speaking of photos,they pose for them everywhere. (say cheese!)
14)A few engage in "serious blogging", but most just blog about their friends, pets and upload pictures of last night's dinner.
15)They are very productive in classes-at catching up with friends on MSN, and updating their status on facebook.
16)They remain sceptical about their country's growing global status, often asking me"why do you come here?"
17)They already express nostalgia for days gone by, at the ripe old age of 17-(hahahs!!so true about me)
18)the few young men who have long hair seem to be teased mercilessly by their friends, but hit on frequently by strangers. (refer this to wei wen bahs...)
19)They catch catnaps at the most unlikely places-bus stops, campus canteens, and even the sch library
20)Their eyes have a tint of worldliness to them, esp the young men who have been through NS
21)They passionately watched "The Little Nonya",but not all will admit publicly.
22)They think its funny that singapore has a professional baseball team (do we?)
23)They love their parents but they definitely do not tell them everything
24)They love to dance...
25)But that does not mean that they have good rhythm.
